Sukkah Mobile in Holmdel

Hundreds of Men, Women, and Children from across Holmdel got a chance to shake the lulav with Rabbi Ephi Carlebach from Chabad of Holmdel and Colts Neck on his Sukkah Mobile.

This year, Chabad Holmdel took their annual Sukkah Mobile to a number of locations around Northern Monnouth County enabling many Residents to do the Mitzvot of Sukkot, including shaking the Lulav and making a blessing in the Sukkah.

The visiting Rabbis were greeted by the residents of the Arnold Walter Nursing Home.  One of the participants remarked that the last time he had been in a Sukkah, was in his Eastern European Shtetl in the 1930’s.  Tears of joy and gratitude were apparent as he blessed the Lulav and added the blessing of ‘Shecheyanu’, thanking G-d for allowing him to experience this inspiring Mitzvah in the mobile Sukkah.

The Rabbis explained that unity is one of the central themes of Sukkot. The four species - namely, the citron (etrog), palm branch (lulav), myrtle (hadas), and willow (arava) – together symbolizes four types, with differing levels of Torah knowledge and observance.     Bringing them together represents our unity as a nation — despite our external differences.

During their visit inside the Sukkah-Mobile the visiting senior citizens and others heard a brief introduction to the Kabbalistic meaning of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot and its precepts.

The Rabbis also explained what a Sukkah is, and the meaning behind it as adults, senior citizens and visiting teens climbed up into the Sukkah on wheels, made a blessing and shook the lulav. It was truly an amazing experience.

In addition, Chabad of Holmdel sponsored visits to homes, offices, and shopping centers bring the joy of the holiday to all.
